Possum Babies

We were all inside this evening when Ben came down the driveway coming home from Young Mens. I looked out my window and saw that he had the car half way up the driveway and he was out of the car looking at something. Cameryn said, He hit something! All the kids ran outside, then Cam came in saying, "Mom you've gotta see this, Dad hit a Possum and it had babies!" "Oh, they're so little and their eyes are still closed and we can see their veins, it makes me want to cry, their little head is just a centimeter."
There were seven little possums still nursing and in their momma's pouch. The poor tiny things! Possums aren't the smartest of animals, we've trapped a few and Ben had to shoot a big male one that hissed at me when I tried to scare it away from our back door and the cat's food. Ben was sad about the babies, he said "the poor little things didn't have a chance!" Oh the things we see living out in the country in the South!
